Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is Fantasy Photography?

Fantasy Photography is a specialized session designed to whisk you away into a world of enchantment. Whether you want to be a woodland fairy, a mystical mermaid, a dark sorceress, or something entirely your own, these sessions use carefully chosen costumes, props, and editing to bring your vision to life.

What if I'm not sure what character or concept I want?

That's what the planning process is for! Once you book, I'll send a questionnaire to help pinpoint your vision (or help you find one). Browse my portfolio, pull some Pinterest inspo, or just describe a vibe and we’ll go from there. We'll figure it out together. My process relies heavily on communication and collaboration.

What is the minimum age for a fantasy session?

There's no minimum age for a general fantasy session. Everyone deserves their fairytale. Dark/Sultry and Boudoir-style sessions are for clients 18 and older, no exceptions.

How many photos will I receive?

It depends on your package! Here's a quick breakdown:

•        The Daydream: 10 digital images

•        Moonlit Memories: 30 digital images

•        Once Upon a Dream: All edited images from the session (60+ images)

All packages include a print release. If you select The Daydream or Moonlit Memories package and want more images, you can purchase them a la carte:

•        1 extra image: $25

•        5 extra images: $100

•        10 extra images: $175

Can I buy physical prints or albums?

Yes, and I really do recommend it. Heirloom-quality prints and wall art start at $200. The Memory Tome ($350) is a modern keepsake, and high-end albums start at $500. These are the kinds of pieces you'll actually want to pass down someday.

Can I bring a friend or family member?

Of course! Session fees cover up to two people. Want to add more characters to the story? Additional people can be added for $100 each.

Do I need to provide my own costume?

Nope! Every client has access to an ever-growing client closet full of costumes, props, and accessories. You're also welcome to bring your own costume or props if you have something specific in mind. Just give me a heads-up in advance so we can plan around your vision.

What sizes do you carry in the client closet?

The closet is stocked with sizes XS through 4XL, plus a selection of kids' costumes for our littlest adventurers. If you have specific fit concerns, just reach out before your session and I'll do my best to have something ready for you.

What should I wear under the costumes?

Seamless shapewear or a strapless bra works well under most pieces. Single-use nipple covers, bra extenders, and other accessories are available on request, just ask!

Do you provide shoes?

Shoes aren't provided. A lot of times we end up going barefoot anyway. For the walk to and from the location, bring something comfortable that you don't mind getting muddy.

What should I bring with me?

Water, bug spray, a hairbrush, touch-up lip color, a change of clothes for after, and your hype person if you need one.

Where are you located?

Raven & Wolves Photography is based in Potomac, MD. Sessions take place at outdoor locations in and around the area, or in-studio when needed. Travel within 20 miles is included; anything beyond that is billed at $0.65/mile.

Can I request a specific location?

Yes! If you have a spot in mind, I'm always open to somewhere new. Just keep in mind that any permits or access fees for the location are the client's responsibility.

How much walking is involved?

It depends on where we shoot. For a studio photoshoot there will be minimal walking, just a couple of steps up to the front door. For an outdoor shoot there are many options. There's a forested area near the studio that's about a 7-minute walk through some steep terrain (totally worth it). Most other locations are at least a 5-10 minute walk from parking. If mobility is a concern, just let me know and we'll find something that works.

What about bugs, mud, and briars?

Bring bug spray and wear shoes you're okay ruining. I'll always do my best to keep you comfortable, but Mother Nature does what she wants.

What if it rains on the day of my outdoor shoot?

Weather is always a valid reason to reschedule. If the forecast is going to mess with our shoot, we'll find a new date together. We can also move things to the studio if that works better. However, I won’t shy away from a little bit of rain or cold if needed.

Can I take behind-the-scenes photos with my phone?

Yes, as long as you're not in my way and you tag me when you post. I love seeing what you capture from your side of the lens.

Do you photograph pets?

Yes! Pets are welcome. Just make sure they're leashed, handled by someone other than you (you'll be busy being ethereal), and comfortable outdoors. Let me know ahead of time so we can work them into the story.

What if I'm awkward in front of the camera?

Most of my clients aren't professional models. I direct everything: where your hands go, where your eyes land, how to shift your weight so you look natural and not like you're waiting for the bus. I use movement prompts instead of stiff poses, so things stay fluid. Also, I'm awkward too. It works out.

How do you handle toddlers who decide they're done mid-session?

I have tricks to deal with the littles. Toddlers are unpredictable little creatures and I genuinely love the challenge. We keep things playful, follow their lead, and I'm good at catching the in-between moments. Those are usually the best ones anyway.

How long does it take to receive my photos?

Typically 3 weeks from your session date. Fantasy editing is not a filter, but rather a whole process. Every image is hand-edited with the kind of atmospheric, otherworldly touches that take real time to do well.

Do you provide the RAW (unedited) files?

No. RAW files aren't included or available for purchase. What you get is a fully edited gallery that reflects the complete vision of your session. The editing is the magic.
