Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is "Fantasy Photography"?

It is a specialized session designed to whisk you away into a world of enchantment. Whether you want to be a woodland fairy, a mystical mermaid, or another character, these sessions use specific costumes, props, and editing to create dreamy, ethereal photos where you are the main character of your own fairytale.

Do I need to provide my own costume?

No. Every client has access to an extensive "client closet" and an ever-increasing collection of props and costumes to help transform into their chosen character. That said, you're absolutely welcome to bring your own costume or personal props. Just give me a heads-up in advance so we can plan accordingly.

Where are you located?

Raven & Wolves Photography is based in Potomac, MD. Sessions take place at a variety of outdoor locations in and around the area, as well as in-studio when needed. Travel within 20 miles is included; additional mileage is billed at $0.65/mile.

How many photos will I receive?

It depends on your package! Here's a quick breakdown:

The Daydream — 10 digital images

Moonlit Memories — 30 digital images

Once Upon a Dream — All edited images from the session (60+ images)

All packages include a print release. If you're on The Daydream or Moonlit Memories package and fall in love with additional images, you can purchase them à la carte:

1 extra image — $25

5 extra images — $100

10 extra images — $175

Can I buy physical prints or albums?

Yes. Heirloom quality print packages and wall art start at $200. You can also purchase a "Memory Tome" for $350 or high-end albums starting at $500.

How long does it take to see my photos?

My typical turnaround time is 3 weeks. This allows me the time needed to hand-edit and apply the "magical" digital touches that make your photos truly ethereal.

Can I bring a friend or family member?

Absolutely! Session fees include up to two people. If you’d like to add more characters to your story, additional people can be added for $100 each per session.

What happens if it rains on the day of my outdoor shoot?

Since magic is best captured in the right light, weather is a valid reason to reschedule. If the forecast looks like it will interfere with our vision, we will work together to find a new date. Alternatively, we can move the shoot to my studio.

What sizes do you carry in the client closet?

The closet is stocked with sizes XS–4XL, and there's also a selection of children's costumes for our littlest adventurers. If you have any fit concerns or specific needs, reach out before your session and I'll do my best to prepare something magical for you.

What should I wear under the costumes?

Seamless shapewear or a strapless bra works best under most pieces. Single-use nipple covers are available upon request.

Do you provide shoes?

Shoes are not provided, so plan accordingly based on your character and location. A lot of times we decide to go barefoot. Comfortable footwear is especially important for the walk to and from outdoor sessions. Think sturdy flats, boots, or sneakers you don't mind getting a little muddy.

How much walking is involved?

It depends on the location. There's a beautiful forested area near the studio that involves about a 7-minutel walk through a steep part of forest. Worth every step, I promise. Most locations are at least a 5–10 minute walk from parking. If mobility is a concern, just let me know and I'll happily find a location that works for you.

What about bugs, mud, and briars?

We're heading into the wild, so a little nature comes with the territory. Bring bug spray, wear shoes you're okay getting dirty, and embrace the adventure. Some of the most magical shots happen in the remotest spots. I'll always do my best to keep you comfortable, but Mother Nature has her own ideas.

Do you provide the RAW (unedited) files?

No. RAW files are not included or available for purchase. What you receive is a fully edited, polished gallery that reflects the complete creative vision of your session.

What should I bring with me?

Water, bug spray, a hairbrush, touch-up lip color, a change of clothes for after, and (if you need one) your personal hype person.

Can I take behind-the-scenes (BTS) photos with my phone?

Yes, with two conditions: don't get in my way, and tag me when you post. 📸 I love seeing what you capture from your side of the lens.

What is the minimum age for a fantasy shoot?

There's no minimum age for a general fantasy session, everyone deserves their fairytale. However, Dark/Sultry and Boudoir-style sessions are exclusively for clients 18 and older, no exceptions.

How do you handle toddlers who decide they're done... mid-session?

I have tricks. Years of them. Toddlers are unpredictable little creatures, and I genuinely love the challenge. We keep things playful, move at their pace, and I'm very good at capturing the in-between moments, the ones that are often the most real and beautiful anyway.

What if I’m awkward in front of the camera?

Most of my clients aren't professional models, they're regular humans (and the occasional elf). I direct your every move. From the placement of your pinky finger to where your eyes should wander to catch the best light, I’ve got you. I use 'action prompts' rather than stiff poses to make sure your movement looks fluid and cinematic. And I am awkward too, so it works out.

What if I'm not sure what character or concept I want?

That's what the planning process is for! Once you book, I will send a questionnaire to pinpoint your vision or help you find one. Browse my portfolio, pull Pinterest inspiration, or just tell me a vibe ("dark and mysterious" or "soft and ethereal" goes a long way). We'll build your story together.

Can I request a specific location?

Yes! If you have a location in mind, I'm always open to exploring somewhere new. Just keep in mind that any required permits or access fees are the client's responsibility.

Do you photograph pets?

Yes! Animal companions are welcome to join the adventure! Please make sure they're leashed, attended to by a dedicated handler (not you, since you'll be busy being ethereal), and well-behaved enough for an outdoor environment. Let me know in advance so we can plan their role in the story.
